Seedlings!
Queer meditation and relaxing activities are good for the heart and soul!
ー( ´ ▽ ` )ノ Quality of life improved – Quality of life – アップ!
I bought seed packets at Winco a few weeks back.
On an impulse while walking through the market I got lost in the various pictures of what one could grow.
Though curious about actually growing pumpkins, I knew that tomatoes or cucumbers would be more vestment than I could do – much less space I had to work with… the flowers on the other hand were plausible.
My impulse investment in time and pay-out this last year were bird feeders, bird feed, and hanging systems for the feeders.
It was largely successful, and my apartment neighbor on the adjoining porch joined in.
We have quite a few species visiting on a regular basis. It is good for the heart and soul.
It improves the lives of those that choose to take the time to appreciate the nature and life so close.
I do not have a green thumb, I say it any time someone in a gardening setting will listen to me.
Largely out of lack of interest, but also out of lack of skill and time investment (not to mention knowledge).
Perhaps I get down on myself too much…
Growing strawberries has been a pleasant investment in funds, space, and summer times.
I bought a plant at Home Depot that reminded me of more pleasant childhood memories (my mom grew such plants).
I plan and look forward to the new harvest of these plants this summer and fall…
In the mean time a selection of flowers are finally starting to break the surface of the soil.
I created a simple table to display what I had to look forward to, based on timelines listed on the seed packets.
Now I look on with curiosity at the tiny forms, leaves, and set pattern shapes (number, form, design) that might give a hint as to what flowers were coming in.
They sprout, and eventually, with time and attention – they will bloom.
Planted on April 2, 2021…
| When do I sprout? | Flower Type |
| 7-10 days | Cosmos |
| 7-14 days | Marigold |
| 7-21 days | Wildflower (American Mix) |
| 7-21 days | Wildflower (Perennial Mix) |
| 10-14 days | Sweet Pea (Sweet Dreams Mixed Colors) |
| 10-14 days | Sweet Pea (Old Spice Mixed Colors) |
| 10-20 days | California Poppy |
| 12-21 days | Hollyhock |
| 18-28 days | Impatiens |
| 23-28 days | Larkspur |
| When do I bloom? | Flower Type |
| 40-50 days | Wildflower (American Mix) |
| 40-50 days | California Poppy |
| 55-60 days | Impatiens |
| 60 days | Sweet Pea (Sweet Dreams Mixed Colors) |
| 60 days | Sweet Pea (Old Spice Mixed Colors) |
| 60-65 days | Cosmos |
| 65-70 days | Marigold |
| 65-70 days | Larkspur |
| 90-365 days | Wildflower (Perennial Mix) |
| 365 days | Hollyhock |
So I can expect to enjoy seeing California Poppies coming in about 6 weeks from April 2nd (so around Friday, May 14th). That and the mix of American Wildflowers around the same time.
Though Cosmos and Marigold are sprouting (though it is hard to tell which shape seedlings they are right now compared to others…) I can expect them to start reaching bloom potential about 8 and a 1/2 weeks from April 2nd (so around Wednesday, June 2nd).
But by the beginning of June the varieties of Sweet Pea, the Impatiens, and Larkspur will also reach bloom stage, …
…so we’ll see how they all compete for space in the small-medium containers I have on the porch.. and if I can remember to water them enough without drowning them!
And that’s if they’ll get enough sun from my eastward facing porch with swaths of old growth hollow tree coverage blocking half of early morning sun and upstairs neighbor porch/roof blocking most of late mid-day sun… :\
